FAQs

Why am I making student loan repayments?

You have to make repayments on your student loan when you earn above a certain threshold.

For most people, this threshold is £24,990 (or £2,082 per month / £480 per week). If you started your course on or after 1st September 2012 and lived in England or Wales at the time, your threshold is £27,295 (or £2,274 per month / £524 per week).

Above that amount, 9% of your earnings go towards loan repayments.

If you’re making repayments but don’t think you should be, it’s best to get in touch with the Student Loans Company directly.

These figures are correct for the 2024/25 tax year.
